NYC SharePoint User Group - Introduction to Developing & Deploying Custom site Definitions with Features (12/5/2007)


Site Definitions have existed since WSS 2.0 but have been simplified with the introduction of features in SharePoint 2007 (WSS 3 & MOSS). In this presentation, Josh will be discussing the basics of Site Definitions and feature creation along with some tips & tricks on how to simplify the process. Along the way he'll touch on some of the advantages of developing Site Definitions over site customization. Finally, he'll discuss how to use the Solution Framework to distribute your site definitions to your SharePoint farm.

The developer experience in SharePoint 2007 has greatly improved from previous versions. With the foundation of SharePoint firmly on ASP.NET 2.0, SharePoint can now be much more than just a corporate collaboration, content, and document management system. In this code heavy session we’ll cover some of the advantages (and pitfalls) of using SharePoint as developer platform and we’ll walk through several customizations typically encountered during the development of a custom application in SharePoint including branding (MasterPages), Webparts, Smart Parts, and SharePoint based applications.

Charlotte Code Camp - Introduction to SharePoint for Developers: Building Custom Webparts for Windows SharePoint Services V3 (5/12/2007)


Microsoft first introduced the concept of Webparts within its SharePoint family of products in 2001. Developers were first able to use the .Net Framework to develop Webparts for Windows SharePoint Services V2 using the .Net Framework 1.1 . Now with the release of Windows SharePoint Services V3 developers have access to the .Net framework 2.0 and the new Webpart infrastructure. This session will introduce you to the development of asp.net 2.0 Webparts, SharePoint Webparts, and user control Webparts utilizing the SmartPart and the best practices for deciding on which to use. Lastly we’ll discuss how to integrate Microsoft’s new ASP.NET AJAX framework into SharePoint Webparts and configure ASP.NET AJAX within SharePoint.

Triangle .Net User Group (3/14/2007)


I will be presenting on the topic of Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 and Windows Workflow integration.
Discussion will include the introduction to the basics of Windows Workflow, out of the box workflow included with Windows Sharepoint Services 3, and finally the development of custom workflows using Sharepoint Designer and Visual Studio 2005 and the .Net Framework 3.0 SDK.
