It looks like another Code Camp circuit is upon me again. I find speaking at Code Camps one of the most invigorating and motivating experiences I can do as a speaker and more importantly as a developer. Its a great chance to not only sharpen my speaking skills but also meet some of the best developers in the region (and sometimes country!). I have gotten some of the most challenging questions at code camps and although it can be a humbling at times you definitely leave the experience as a better developer. In this round I'm going to be speaking at the Richmond VA, Charleston SC, and Charlotte NC Code Camps.
So October is looking to be a very busy month for me on the Speaking side. Not that life hasn't been busy for me as it is which is probably very evident from my lack of blog posts.
As is common with most of my presentations I remain very developer centric and continue to do so in these upcoming talks. In my latest round I'm going to be discussing a popular subject as of late around using SharePoint as a application framework or development platform. Its something I've been doing now for almost 4 years (getting pulled in kicking and screaming at first lol) but has come to the forefront with the new functionality and architecture found in SharePoint 2007 (WSS 3 & MOSS). Most recently it was discussed on recent episode of .Net Rocks , and some more controversial posts on the subject from Jeffery Palermo who doesn't quite like the idea of using SharePoint for development.
In my presentation I'm going to cover some of the advantage (and some disadvantages) of using SharePoint as the platform for your application including some of the functionality you can take advantage of. Finally we'll spend most of the time walking through a sample application and the common sceneries that require customizations and methods to achieve those customizations including master pages, webparts, smartparts, and application pages. If time permits we'll touch on deployment a bit.

Charlotte NC Code Camp 10\20\2007
I am especially excite about assisting Brian Gough (Sharepoint MVP) in Charlotte as we've been spending some time helping out with some new content for a SharePoint .Net U and this will be the first venue to make use of some of that (sprinkled with my presentation)
There are spaces available for attendees in many of these code camps so if its in your area I highly recommend attending. I look forward to seeing you there!
